Cookies

What this website stores on your device, and why.

We do not use advertising cookies, we do not track you across other websites, and we do not run analytics. Nothing on this site is trying to work out who you are.

One

What a cookie is

A small file a website stores on your device so that it can remember something between one page and the next. On its own a web page has no memory at all, so without something like this a site cannot tell that the person opening page two is the same one who opened page one.

Two

What we use

Staying signed in

Necessary

When a member of staff signs in to the admin area, a cookie keeps them signed in as they move between pages. Without it they would be asked for a password on every click. It is set by Supabase, which handles our sign-in, and it holds a session token rather than anything about the person.

Only ever set for signed-in staff. If you have never logged in, you have never had one.

Light or dark

On your device only

If you use the button in the header to choose light or dark, that choice is kept on your own device so the site looks the same next time. It is stored in your browser rather than sent to us — we never see it.

The wall displays

On the device only

The screens in the prayer hall and hallway remember that they have been paired, and keep a copy of the prayer times so they keep working if the internet drops. That is stored on those devices and is nothing to do with visitors to the website.

Three

Cookies set by others

Our find us page embeds a map from Google. Google may set its own cookies when that map loads, under their policy rather than ours. If you would rather avoid it, the address is written out on the page as text — you do not need to load the map to find us.

Links to Instagram, our live audio stream and our donation pages take you to other organisations’ websites, which have their own policies.

Four

Why we do not ask for consent

UK law requires a website to ask permission before setting cookies that are not strictly necessary — analytics and advertising, mostly. We do not use any, so there is nothing to ask about, which is why you have not been shown a banner.

If that ever changes, we will ask properly before it does.

Five

Turning them off

Every browser lets you block or delete cookies, usually under settings, privacy. You can also browse privately, which clears everything when you close the window.

Blocking them will not affect reading the site, the prayer times, or donating. It will stop staff being able to sign in to the admin area, since that depends on the sign-in cookie.

Six

Asking us

If you have a question about any of this, write to info@madani-institute.org.uk.

Our privacy policy covers everything else we hold and why.
